Hello Go-Go-Getters,

It's been a bit, but I've got some news for you about our project. I'll start with quick reviews of what's come so far, and then get into where we're at and what's ahead.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://onyx-path-reprints.backerkit.com

All of the pledge tier and Add On options PDFs have gone out to backers, including

  • Trinity Continuum Core Rules PDF
  • Trinity Continuum: Æon PDF
  • Scion: Origin (Second Edition Book 1) PDF
  • Scion: Hero (Second Edition Book 2) PDF
  • Scion: Demigod (Second Edition Book 3), PDF
  • Scion: Dragon PDF
  • Scion: Masks of the Mythos PDF
  • Trinity Continuum: Aberrant PDF
  • Trinity Continuum: Adventure! PDF
  • Trinity Continuum: Anima PDF

If you had added these to your pledge but haven't received them, use the Claiming Your Digital Rewards guide, above, to log in to your Pledge Manager and get your DriveThru download codes.

PROJECT STATUS

I know that the US Port Workers strike at the beginning of the month shook things up a bit in terms of receiving and delivery schedule for our books. Happily, the issue was resolved quickly, although I think the logistics companies our printer was working with may have prioritized some of their other clients over our books in their initial plan to get things moving out as quickly as possible. Just my theory, they've done a decent job and had to deal with a lot of uncertainty for a bit, but it looks like things are on track once more.

At least for two of our books. Looking at the most recent Onyx Path Monday Meeting Notes, we see:

  • Scion Origin – Has arrived in the US, worked through the port, and en route to Studio 2, Onyx Path distribution partners.
  • TC Core – Has arrived in the US, worked through the port, and en route to Studio 2, Onyx Path distribution partners.
  • TC Æon - Absent from this update.

I know that I've reported on manufacturing issues for TC: Æon in earlier updates, so not sure what the status is on that one currently.

In addition, some backers selected the Trinity Continuum: Anima hardcover as one of their Add On options during the campaign. Here's my update on that book:

  • TC Anima – Currently at sea, en route to US port and expected at Studio 2 by late November/early December.

So, with the exception of the unknown status on Æon, everything at least looks on track for our projected reward distribution by the end of the year.

NEXT STEPS

I'm going to spend November following up with Onyx Path on the status of Æon, and continue tracking Scion: Origin, TC Core, and TC Anima as they make their way to Studio 2. Even with the one unknown element, I'll be able to start setting up our shipping costs and get that all ready for you to confirm before final payment processing and reward shipments.

So, there's still some stuff to sort and bits for me to set up in the Pledge Manager, but we're getting close to the end now.

I'll be back in November with an update on the status of our reprint books, tracking on Anima, and information on shipping costs and final order lockdown, shipping payment processing, and address confirmation as we work to get these books out to you before the end of the year.

Hello Go-Go-Getters,

Back again for a quick update. No big news yet, but the Onyx Path team have made progress on some of our reprint books.

First up, a reminder about our Pledge Manager and existing PDF rewards that have gone out.

  • Scion Origin – Test prints were approved, a print run was scheduled, and the book is currently set for production with the overseas printer. Once completed, it will begin the long journey to the Studio 2 warehouse, Onyx Path's distribution partner for this campaign.
  • TC Core – Test prints were approved, a print run was scheduled, and the book is currently set for production with the overseas printer. Once completed, it will begin the long journey to the Studio 2 warehouse, Onyx Path's distribution partner for this campaign.
  • TC Aeon – The book with the biggest challenge to get set up due to having to replace a key font that was no longer available, which shifted many pages. Test prints have not yet been approved for this one, and the process continues.

So, things are running 66% smoothly, with Trinity Continuum: Æon having a bit of a struggle to lock down. The team is continuing to sort it, though.

Once I can confirm that all books have printed and we have a delivery date at our warehouse, I'll be able to set up a schedule for locking down or orders, processing any Pledge Manager payments, and confirming shipping information with you before fulfillment.

I'll be back in another few months with an update and any new information. In the meantime, you can track progress at the Onyx Path website.

Hello Go-Go-Getters,

It's taken a little bit (IndieGoGo's perk system makes setting up a pledge manager a little more complicated) and I'm a few weeks behind, but the Pledge Manager is finally ready to go.

BACKER SURVEYS

Over the next handful of days (Feb 29 - March 3), you’ll receive an email from us with a special link to your Pledge Manager survey. It’s important to respond to your survey as quickly as you can since we need this information to fulfill your rewards.

You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey (although you probably already have one from pledging to this campaign). When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey invitation link to respond. Answer the questions about your reward preferences, provide shipping information, and purchase add-on items if you like. You don’t have access to this survey link yet, but it will be available later this week via email!
The e-mail will look something like this:

After you respond to your survey, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before we close the surveys and get our final counts, and that won't happen until the books are being printed and we're preparing to ship.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://onyx-path-reprints.backerkit.com
If there are any issues you find with the Pledge Manager, please contact me as soon as possible to let me know. It rolls out in waves so that I can correct issues on the fly and make it work as best possible as people come on board.

TO CONTACT JAMES

  • Via E-Mail: Onyxpath.ks [at] gmail.com
  • Via Indiegogo: Click "Ask A Question" under the Onyx Path logo on the main page; the message will come to me!
  • Via BackerKit: Click "Need Help?" from your page, and then fill in the Contact Us form. BackerKit will pass your message along to me.

PLEDGE MANAGER

Within the BackerKit Survey and Pledge Manager, you can:
  • Review your Pledge Tier Selection and Rewards
  • Confirm Add On selections
  • Set up payment information for any failed payments from the IndieGoGo campaign or to pay for any new Add On options selected.
When you click on your BackerKit invitation link, you should see something like this...

From the Pledge Manager welcome page you can choose to
  •  Review Your Pledge Level and Rewards
  •  Start Your Survey, confirming pledge rewards, confirming or selecting new Add On options, and confirming any shipping and payment info that may be needed

Even though it'll be some time before rewards are printed and ready to ship, you will be asked to enter your shipping country at this stage. As noted, we haven't set shipping costs yet - those will be calculated and added in when we're preparing to ship the book. That won't be for a long time, though, and there will be plenty of opportunity - and notice - for you to make changes.

If you click on your Pledge Level, you will see a list of all items included in your Pledge Rewards, including the new printing hardcover and PDF version of the perk.

Once you've confirmed that your Pledge Level is correct, you can GET STARTED with your BackerKit Pledge Manager Survey.

So, in summary:
  • Look for an e-mail invitation to BackerKit's Pledge Manager sometime over the next 4 days
  • Get Started on your survey
  • Confirm your Pledge Level
  • Confirm and Select Any Add On options
  • Confirm Your Shipping Information
  • Confirm Your Payment Information

Note, you will be able to update your shipping and payment information before we ship out your books. When we get closer to that stage, I'll post an update outlining the process and I'll send confirmation e-mails to review and confirm all information before we pass it on to our distribution partners.

Over the weekend, I will also set up and begin distribution on all of the PDF rewards. This includes the *existing* versions of our three new printing books. Don't worry, you'll be able to download updated versions when those titles are updated and available on DriveThruRPG.

Once distribution for those begins, you will receive an e-mail from BackerKit with links for these rewards over the next 4-5 days if any of them are on your expected list of rewards. I'll be releasing them in waves, so don't panic if you only see a couple links at first... the rest are coming. (We're in a digital world, but there are still a lot of manual processes. And there are many links to go out!!)

All of the pledge tier and Add On options PDFs will be out to you within a week, including

  • Trinity Continuum Core Rules PDF
  • Trinity Continuum: Æon PDF
  • Scion: Origin (Second Edition Book 1) PDF
  • Scion: Hero (Second Edition Book 2) PDF
  • Scion: Demigod (Second Edition Book 3), PDF
  • Scion: Dragon PDF
  • Scion: Masks of the Mythos PDF
  • Trinity Continuum: Aberrant PDF
  • Trinity Continuum: Adventure! PDF
  • Trinity Continuum: Anima PDF

Once you've completed your survey and established your Pledge Manager page for this campaign, you'll have access to your Digital Rewards page.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://onyx-path-reprints.backerkit.com

NEXT UPDATE

Other than your Pledge Manager e-mails for this campaign, it'll probably be a bit quiet for the next month or so. I'll send out an update in April checking in and updating the status on our reprint books.

ONYX PATH PROJECT TRACKING

You can find the weekly Monday Meeting blog updates <here>, which note any projects with status changes since the previous Month End summary. Onyx Path also posts a summary at the end of each month. Later today, I expect you'll be able to see the latest status of all of their projects here: <February 2024 Project Status Summary>

Wed Jan 31 '24 Announcement
10 months ago – Wed, Jan 31, 2024 at 07:13:44 AM

Hello Go-Go-Getters,

Our Indiegogo campaign has concluded, but we're only finished the first phase of this project. Onyx Path knows they'll have the funds to create the new files for the printer, work has begun on the tweaks for this new printing, and our books will go to press in the upcoming months.

Over the next 2-3 weeks, Indiegogo will confirm the totals, gather up all the payments and figure out what Onyx Path generated in the end (less fees and some holdbacks).

Once this step is done, which will likely be by mid-February, Indiegogo will confirm everything with Onyx Path and I can begin to set up the project with the BackerKit Pledge Manager and link it to the Indiegogo data.

BackerKit's Pledge Manager is a robust fulfillment integration and pledge management program that will allow us to work with all of the data and distribute the rewards to you. It will take me a few weeks to set the project up. Once I've got it all entered and built, the team from BackerKit will review to ensure I didn't mess anything up too badly, and then I'll make any changes they've suggested and we can move on to the Survey stage.

BACKERKIT SURVEYS

Once BackerKit says I'm good to go, I will send out a survey to all backers.

The BackerKit survey is both a verb and a noun - it will collect data for the analysis of some aspect of a group (enabling Onyx Path to set print runs, prioritize new projects, and fine-tune future campaigns), as well as providing a general review or summary of the reward tier you've chosen, confirm all of the rewards associated with that reward tier, and confirm your total pledge amount.

I expect Surveys to go out by by late February 2024.

During the Survey period, you will review and confirm your perk selection or even add on additional options. If you've gone back to work or found an alternate income source and decide to include another add-on, you can do so at this time. Note, you will not be able to reduce your pledge amount, only increase.

We'll also open a pre-order page around this time, though any pre-orders won't receive any discounted purchase price.

Note that you'll be able to adjust Add On options for some time - until we're getting ready to print the book itself and have figured out International shipping costs. So don't feel pressure to have it all figured out right away - we'll make sure there's plenty of time to get it all sorted before the books go out.

The survey will ask you to confirm your shipping address, even though it'll be some time before we ship out the final product. Do not worry about moving before shipping begins - you will be able to update BackerKit right up until the point that we begin fulfilling the final book. We will send out a notice prior to lock down so you can update any information.

PROJECT STATUS

In fact, let's start our post-campaign updates off right now with the current project status.

  • Scion Origin – In addition to the known errata (already corrected on the existing PDF version), we’ve dealt with additional errata items… including the character sheets. Book has been exported for press and uploaded for the printing crew to begin the test print process.
  • TC Core – Confirming interior pages have all been properly corrected. Everything else needed before the files can be finalized and exported for press is complete (ie, cover and specs).
  • TC Aeon – Working on corrections and tweaking out anything that would get flagged in Pre Press. Oh, and there is font shift and its a 340+ page book… so it’s taking some time to do.

REWARD DISTRIBUTION

This is a long process, but I will send out regular updates whenever the project moves forward a step. So, I'll let you know when the book is in the proofing stage (test prints are created, reviewed, and eventually approved), when the book has gone to press and the actual printing happens, when the book is shipping, and when it arrives at the warehouse and will begin fulfillment.

So, these won't be monthly updates with minimal progress noted. Instead, I'll just touch base whenever these books move forward a stage and are closer to delivery.

I'll also touch base much earlier - when I'm sending out the PDF component of your pledge selection and Add On options. All of our hardcover rewards included the PDF as well, and those are available and will go out once our Pledge Manager is up and running - so in about 5 weeks (early March 2024).

When I send out PDFs, you will get the current version of these books; once the new files are finalized, you'll be able to download updated versions at your convenience.

I'll go over all of that in our March update.

NEXT UPDATE: END OF FEBRUARY

So, expect the next update around the end of February, where I'll launch our Pledge Manager and send out backer Surveys. If there are any new Add On options available, I'll note them at that time, as well as any progress made on our books.

Thanks to everyone for your support!

Sat Jan 27 '24 Announcement
10 months ago – Sat, Jan 27, 2024 at 01:21:32 PM

Hello Go-Go-Getters,

Well, from the start I promised this would be a pretty simple, straightforward campaign without a lot of updates or bits and pieces to keep track of. These books are sort of "known quantities" so there's no manuscripts to preview or sneak peek artwork to share.

Pretty simply, we're just working to get updated files and get a new print run of these fundamental books out to backers, retailers, and in stock for other campaigns. Rich summed it up in a recent Monday Meeting blog...

Who is this campaign for? Well, it's for

  • You, if you back this. Fulfillment, probably later this year. No development needed, just printing.
  • Other campaigns: we like adding core rulebooks as add-ons to other campaigns (we did a bunch of those on this campaign too!), and this helps us keep doing that.
  • Retailers: Put our games in front of other faces at physical game stores!

Usually, I'm sending out way too many updates throughout a campaign, but I've managed to keep fairly quiet so far. But, with just about 4 days left, I've got a few bits to share, mostly answering some of the few questions we've got. Let's call these Infrequently Asked Questions...

CHANGES and UPDATES

Q: You've said these books will be tweaked and updated. How extensive are these corrections/changes?

A: First, I'll note a response from Ian A.A. Watson, the content lead for the Trinity Continuum line.

Danielle had some small mechanical changes, my setting-oriented list was more stuff like "change these references from 'Matthew Zweidler' to 'Matthieu Zweidler'." Stuff that makes the book flow better but certainly not anything that makes existing books obsolete.

Next, you can get a bit more detail in the latest Onyx Pathcast.

You'll get about 13-14 minutes of the Onyx Path crew talking about voices they use to answer the phone, figuring out the pronounciation of words for voice over work, some thoughts on entering the world of Scion, and some other random thoughts. But - as always - they eventually get to the general topic of the podcast. This week they note some of the things they'd tweaking for these new printings (NOT new editions!):

  • A few minor things in Scion: Origin, like names and stuff. These were already corrected in the current PDF and Print-on-Demand versions, but not in the original printing of the book.
  • The errata listed in the Scion Second Edition Errata and FAQ is now incorporated into the hardcover text.
  • Font changes due to availability and licensing updates
  • Clarity for some mechanics, adjustments to a few numbers, no focus on typos
  • No changes to Scale!

Q: Will the existing PDFs on DriveThruRPG be updated with these changes?

A: Yes. In theory, the existing files will be updated, and if you've already got those in your digital library on DriveThruRPG, you'll be able to download the latest version at your convenience. Depending on your contact preference settings with DTRPG, you may get a notice when the new files are available for download.

Again, note that the errata for Scion: Origin is already incorporated into the existing PDF, so you may notice fewer changes in the digital version vs. the first and second printings of the hardcovers.

Matthew, Eddy, and Danielle also have a great chat about these gamelines and these foundational books in particular. So if you're new to Scion Second Edition or the Trinity Continuum, there's lots of good info in this podcast to learn more about these games.

UNLOCKING ADDITIONAL BOOKS

Q: Will Trinity Continuum: Assasins get a print run? Can we unlock that?

A: Right now, the focus is just on a new print run for the three listed books - Scion: Origin (Second Edition Book 1), the Trinity Continuum Core Rulebook, and Trinity Continuum: Æon

If we have incredible success with this campaign - and I don't know what that may look like, but imagine a few hundred backers join in before the end - then Onyx Path may decide to add other titles to this print run. If that happens, I will make any additional options available in the Pledge Manager after the campaign so Indiegogo backers will be able to jump on and get any extra books added to their pledge.

But I don't think I'll know until all is said and done and the Onyx Path team have figured out their print needs and what options may open up.

TRADITIONAL PRINT RUN and PRINT-ON-DEMAND

Q: How will these books differ from the Print-on-Demand versions offered on DTRPG?

A: DriveThruRPG.com offers one-off print-on-demand hardcopy versions of most of Onyx Path's PDFs. Depending on the size of the book, these are usually hardcover versions for bigger books like these, or softcovers for smaller supplements. You can usually get the hardcovers in either of two formats - a less-expensive "standard" version and a more-expensive "premium" version.

While the print-on-demand technology used by DriveThru's partners has dramatically improved over the years and these one-off printed versions of the PDFs are often excellent (especially the premium color hardcover versions), they are still printed on machines that may run dozens or hundreds of titles an hour, so print options and materials are usually limited to lowest common denominator between titles.

The books from Onyx Path's print run for this project (and recent books like Trinity Continuum: Adventure!) are all dedicated machines. When the printing company sets up the print run for Scion: Origin, that is the only book being run at that time. They can ensure the paper, print quality, color, and more are set up with Onyx Path's exact specifications for hundreds of copies at one time. Quality is greater and consistent throughout the run.

Just from my perspective, looking at my traditionally printed versions of Trinity Continuum: Adventure! beside my print-on-demand version of Trinity Continuum: Assassins, the paper stock from Adventure is more glossy and slick, the color is brighter, the cover has spot gloss and everything is a little sharper.

The print-on-demand version of Assassins is still great, and really impressive for a one-off book run on any given wednesday. That said, the paper is a little rougher, more matte than gloss; the artwork color is a little less vibrant. Because of the thickness of the paper needed to capture the premium color option, the pages are thicker... a PoD book the same "thickness" as Trinity Continuum: Adventure (320 pages) may only have 200 pages.

Again, the PoD versions are really, really impressive for one-off hardcopies of the PDF, but just not as polished or well-finished as the copies from a printer's print run.

So, that comes down to individual taste and needs and costs.

Again, not a ton of questions for this one - I think it's a pretty tight focus and straightforward project, so not a lot to wonder about. I still managed to give some long, rambly answers, so that's my own personal victory!

Let's see how the project continues over these final 4 days. We'll keep an eye on Rich's Monday Meeting notes to see about any developments for any possible unlocked books (if anything happens, I will let you know in an update), and we'll all look forward to our new printings later this year!
